C-38 – Refrigeration Contractor

A refrigeration contractor constructs, fabricates, erects, installs, maintains, services and repairs refrigerators, refrigerated rooms, and insulated refrigerated spaces, temperature insulation, air-conditioning units, ducts, blowers, registers, humidity and thermostatic controls for the control of air, liquid, and/or gas temperatures below fifty degrees Fahrenheit (50 ), or ten degrees Celsius (10 ).

The Refrigeration (C-38) Examination is divided into five major sections. These sections are:

1. Job Preparation (11%)

  • Plan/schematics
  • Types of refrigeration systems

2. Installation (23%)

  • Critical path requirements
  • Rough installation
  • System start up and testing

3. Maintenance (18%)

  • Inspections and documentation
  • Preventative maintenance

4. Troubleshooting/Repair (30%)

  • Common refrigeration system problems
  • Troubleshooting techniques/diagnosis
  • System repair

5. Safety (18%)

  • Chemical hazards
  • Working in elevated areas
  • Worker safety/training
  • Electrical hazards
