– Construction Zone Traffic Control Contractor
A
construction zone traffic control contractor prepares or removes lane
closures, flagging, or traffic diversions, utilizing portable devices,
such as cones, delineators, barricades, sign stands, flashing beacons,
flashing arrow trailers, and changeable message signs, on roadways,
including, but not limited to, public streets, highways, or any public
conveyance.
The
Construction Zone Traffic Control (C-31) Examination is divided into
four major sections. These sections are:

Traffic Control Zone Establishment & Maintenance (52%)
- Development
of installation plan with contingencies
- Installation
of traffic control devices
- Inspection
and maintenance of traffic control zones
- Removal
of traffic control devices
- Implementation
of moving lane closures
2.
Safety (26%)
- Worker
training
- Personal
protective equipment
- Evaluation
of traffic control equipment quality
- Implementation
of safe environment and emergency procedures
3.
Plans and Specifications (15%)
- Designing
traffic control plans
- Plan
reading and evaluation to determine scope of work
- Plan and
specification reading and evaluation to determine compliance with
Caltrans and MUTCD
- Estimating
material, equipment, and labor
4.
Permits & Notifications (7%)
- Verification
of city, state, USA/Dig Alert permits for traffic control project
- Notification
of public and appropriate agencies regarding traffic controls
