C-20 – Warm-Air Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning Contractor

A warm-air heating, ventilating and air-conditioning contractor fabricates, installs, maintains, services and repairs warm-air heating systems and water heating heat pumps, complete with warm-air appliances; ventilating systems complete with blowers and plenum chambers; air-conditioning systems complete with air-conditioning unit; and the ducts, registers, flues, humidity and thermostatic controls and air filters in connection with any of these systems. This classification shall include warm-air heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems which utilize solar energy.

The Warm-Air Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning Examination is divided into five major sections. These sections are:

1. System Evaluation and Design (15%)

  • HVAC system design and evaluation
  • HVAC calculations
  • Duct system design and layout

2. Fabrication (5%)

  • Duct system fabrication
  • Installation preparation

3. System Installation and Start Up (33%)

  • Electrical components
  • Plumbing and refrigeration components
  • Air distribution and duct systems
  • HVAC system start up

4. Service, Maintenance, and Repair (37%)

  • HVAC system tests and checks
  • HVAC system maintenance or repair

5. Safety (10%)

  • Personal protective equipment
  • Safety precautions taken at work site
  • Documentation of hazardous materials
