C-2 – Insulation and Acoustical Contractor

An insulation and acoustical contractor installs any insulating media and preformed architectural acoustical materials for the purpose of temperature and/or sound control.

The Insulation and Acoustical (C-2) Examination is divided into six major sections. These sections are:

1. Job Preparation (15%)

  • Plans and specifications
  • Technical data
  • Site preparation
  • Material quantities

2. Acoustical Systems (31%)

  • Grid layout and framing
  • Exposed grids
  • Acoustical, panels, and tiles
  • Seismic requirements
  • Carrier channel requirements
  • Concealed systems
  • Trims and finishes
  • Sound proofing

3. Hand-Installed Insulation (21%)

  • Fire and smoke control
  • Building insulation
  • Vapor and air barriers
  • Mechanical insulation fasteners
  • Reflective insulation
  • Mechanical & HVAC insulation

4. Blow-in Insulation (7%)

  • Baffle installation
  • Exterior/interior patching

5. Spray-in Insulation (5%)

  • Spray preparation
  • Insulation

6. Safety (21%)

  • Personal protection
  • Equipment and tools
  • Site conditions
  • Materials transportation
